I am Dr. Simon Godart, Historian of Philosophy based in Berlin. My research focuses on the history of philosophy, particularly its intersections with rhetoric and literature. I am currently working on Aristotle’s Poetics, with special attention to the concepts of anagnorisis and peripeteia.
During the winter term 2024/25 and the summer term 2025, I served as Acting Professor for the History of Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy at Freie Universität Berlin, substituting for Anne Eusterschulte.
I am a Research-Track Postdoc at EXC 2020, working in Research Area 3: “Future Perfect.” From 2016 to 2019, I was a scholarship holder at the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School for Literary Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, where I completed my PhD in 2019. My dissertation, Passagen. Zitat und skeptische Poetik bei Michel de Montaigne und Pierre Bayle, was published by Fink in 2021. My second book, Ad plures ire. Über literarische Antizipation nach Walter Benjamin, appeared with Passagen-Verlag in 2022.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Comparative Literature from Freie Universität Berlin, where I also earned my Master’s in Philosophy. From August to December 2017, I was a visiting scholar at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris.
Together with Dr. Sina Dell’Anno (University of Basel), I co-edit the online journal Bildbruch. Beobachtungen an Metaphern.
